PLN 26.6 million for Ełk for the reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street

Reconstruction of four intersections within Sikorskiego Street, sidewalks, bus bays, places parking and the construction of a bicycle path are part of the activities planned in the investment, for which the city of Ełk obtained PLN 26.6 million from the Government Fund Polish Ład.

The city of Ełk acquired  PLN 26,600,000 for the reconstruction of Sikorskiego Street. Funding come from the Government Fund Polish Order: Strategic Investment Programme (II recruitment).

The investment includes the reconstruction of one of the main roads in the communication system of the city of Ełk, i.e. Sikorskiego Street on the section from pedestrian crossings before turning into Warszawska Street (from the intersection with Wojska Polskiego Street) to the crossing of the railway line No. 38 between Ełk and Korsze.

The total length of the section is about 0.9 km (900 m).

Planned scope of investment:

4 intersections will be rebuilt:

  • intersection Warszawska – Sikorskiego – Piłsudskiego – the "eight" roundabout will be built
  • at the intersections of Sikorski - Toruńska and Sikorskiego – Wileńska will create an additional lane for turning vehicles left
  • the intersection of Sikorski – Gdańsk will become three-inlet roundabout

In addition, the sidewalks will be rebuilt, which at the same time will be expanded. There will also be a bicycle path or a pedestrian and bicycle route. Asylums will be developed at pedestrian crossings within two roundabouts Security. As part of the works, bus bays, exits will also be rebuilt, parking spaces, street lighting, rainwater drainage, canal technological. The whole complemented will be plantings of greenery.

Sikorskiego Street is a street with high traffic. Solutions infrastructural, which was sufficient many years ago, now require modernisation and adaptation to changing conditions. The street itself, as well as intersections with it are jammed during rush hour, pedestrian crossings require corrections, and the lack of bicycle thrust on the street with such a high volume of vehicles affects at the level of safety of cyclists.

It is important to introduce solutions to improve traffic and increase throughput (use of roundabouts, left-hand turns), improving safety pedestrians and cyclists (bicycle path, pedestrian safety asylums) and the safety of drivers (roundabouts that calm traffic).

The implementation of the investment will be possible after the announcement and the outcome of the tender.
